The Academic Center of Architecture and Urbanism (CAAU PUC-Rio) is the representative entity for all students of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism (both undergraduate and postgraduate) at PUC-Rio. Its primary mission is to amplify the students’ voices, advocating for improvements in the physical space, daily routine, and inclusion of students within the university. Besides serving as a representation, CAAU acts as a link between students and the higher instances of PUC, such as DAU and the Rectorate, conveying their needs and demands transparently and directly.
The activities of the Academic Center include:
– Establishing direct communication with students, both in person and virtually (via email and social media);
– Participating in the organization of events related to the Department of Architecture and Urbanism;
– Continuous representation of students in the General Committee meetings of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism;
– Raising awareness, providing support, and encouraging student participation in important decisions for the future of the Architecture and Urbanism course at PUC.
The current team, “De alunxs para alunxs” has been representing the student body since the beginning of 2023. It is composed of students Marcelle Pereira Carvalho Falcão, Maria Antônia Dias de Souza Quaresma, and Matheus Araujo de Souza. One of the main achievements of the team was the implementation of the “Freshman Kit” project, which, with financial support from the Department of Architecture and Urbanism, distributes kits containing basic drawing and model materials to scholarship students entering the course.
