RELAUNCH OF THE BOOK: QUANDO A RUA VIRA CASA

Sep. 28, at the Leme Building pilotis bleachers, at 18:00
Quando a Rua Vira Casa or: When the street turns into house - The appropriation of community spaces in a downtown neighborhood.

"The book delves into the big urban issues from the point of view of an emblematic neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro - Catumbi -, by means of a commented walkthrough that describes street by street by their simplicity and particularities, portraying house by house in sequences of facades and entering the small local business stores emphasizing their ambience values, revealing a sophisticated urban and social morphology.
Launched in 1980, the book was born of the dialogue, still incipient in Brazil, between anthropology, architecture and urbanism. The interdisciplinary analysis of the appropriation of urban spaces proposes to compare a traditional neighborhood center with a new area, entirely planned according to modern parameters and conceptions, in Rio de Janeiro. For this purpose the authors chose, respectively, the Catumbi and the “Selva de Pedra” a Condo Apartment Buildings in the city’s South Zone.
After three editions sold out and 37 years later, the theme and approach to the work – now a classic – remain relevant. "
