Surfaces of Contact Workshop

The Peter Behrens School of Arts of the University of Düsseldorf and the DAU / PUC-Rio have their first cooperation with the workshop "Surfaces of Contact".
 
The "Contact Surfaces" workshop was a two-semester collaboration between professors Bernhard Franken and Gabi Schillig Peter Behrens School of Arts of the University of Düsseldorf and Professor Verônica Natividade of DAU / PUC-Rio. The intense work had two workshops: Intra Muros, held between 14 and 18 November in Düsseldorf and Extra Muros, held at PUC-Rio between May 29 and June 2.

The atelier had as its proposal to work with the concept of "skin" that is not limited to the body, but which can be applied to tectonic strategies ranging from the scale of the object to the urban. The course set out to speculate on the relation of the skin as a contact surface in the connection between the body / building object / urban space, seeking to identify its performative and mediation potentialities in order to generate personal, social and cultural spaces. The students explored various artistic, architectural and urban strategies, where the notion of skin assumes the ambivalent boundary meaning that it creates transitions rather than stiff boundaries between the spaces it forms. The course focused specifically on Brazilian artists who deal with the notion of body and skin, involving their potential to create tactile and multisensorial spaces of communication.

The Brazilian team also had the collaboration of Professors Masao Kamkita, Ana Paula Polizzo, Antônio Sena, Silvio Dias and Alder Catunda of the DAU, as well as Professor William Barbosa and the students representing the IEEE, Gustavo Azevedo and Henrique Pinheiro Saraiva of the Department of Electrical Engineering .

As part of the workshop, students also visited ICD / ITKE laboratories at the University of Stuttgart in Germany and the workshops of Brazilian artists Maria Nepomuceno and Ernesto Neto in Rio de Janeiro. The closing of the workshop was held on June 1, with a talk by the plastic artist and former student of the DAD / PUC-Rio, Muti Randolph and the exhibition of the work done.
