Fernando Betim

Architect and Urbanist (PUCCAMP, 1986), Master’s degree in Design (PUC-Rio, 2003), and Ph.D. in Design from PUC-Rio (2008). Specialization in Architecture and Sustainability (UPC-Barcelona, 2006). Was a member of the Formation Committee for the Architecture and Urbanism Course at PUC-Rio and administrative coordinator of CAU PUC-Rio from 2008 to 2013.

Professor/coordinator of the Specialization in Sustainability in Design at PUC-Rio. He was a professor in the graduate programs in Design and Architecture at the Department of Arts and Design.

He was the coordinating member of the Research Group “GELS/PUC-Rio,” where he studied, developed, and executed projects with an emphasis on sustainability.

He was a researcher associated with the Research Laboratory in Living Design – LILD and Eco-design Laboratory – LED, at the Department of Design of PUC-Rio, focusing primarily on the following topics: sustainable construction systems, green roofs, rural housing, composites, and accessible materials for construction (fibersoil, felts, and natural pigments).

He worked on various research lines such as: eco-sustainable architecture, bamboo in civil construction, sustainable design, lightweight structures applied in architecture and design, unconventional materials, tension structures and green roofs, and raw earth and vegetable fibers.
