EXHIBITION CANTEIRO OPENS IN STUDIO-X RIO

Opens next Thursday (July 10th)) at 6:00PM at Studio-X Rio (Praça Tiradentes, 48, Centro, Rio de Janeiro) the exhibition "Canteiro", whose design and installation was done by students and faculty of CAU PUC-Rio.

Faced with intense urban transformations in Rio - expressed through construction sites and torrents of their efforts, materials and events - and the demand for a temporary pavilion for the MAM-Rio, came the opportunity and the desire to broaden the field of architecture from his approach to art and construction.

The design takes advantage of the formwork in use in the most emblematic works of the city as technology strategy to promote a critical operation in the current carioca context. By using these elements to build a negative image of a wall that crosses the span of the museum and runs through the park, the flag prevents crystallize and placed in a permanent process, ending distinctions between assembly and disassembly object.

The very idea of the wall as line tensions and divides spaces, is subverted when the wall itself defines a new spaciousness - the wall at the same time space split and possibility, creating a place of experimentation and reflection on ongoing transformations.

The project was designed to house 89 + project activities, a partner of MAM with MoMA PS1, and was not performed. This exhibition is an opportunity to highlight their critical dimension and reflect on own design practice as a tool for reflection on reality. The exhibition is accompanied by the roundtable "Architecture and Ideology: Critical Practice."
