The evaluation received by PPGArq in the last four-year period (2017–2020) reflected both its strengths and the areas that require improvement. The Program progressed from CAPES Rating 3 to CAPES Rating 4, demonstrating the correct and coherent application of the results obtained through self-assessment processes.
It is worth highlighting that achieving Rating 4 granted the Program the possibility of proposing a Doctoral Course—an aspect that was incorporated into the self-assessment process, leading to the redefinition of some actions during the 2021–2024 period.
Self-assessment at PPGArq is essential for identifying the Program’s strengths and challenges. Throughout the four-year period, various stages of self-assessment were carried out.
Among the main self-assessment actions, the meetings held in 2023 stand out, with the following objectives:
-
Identify defining characteristics of PPGArq’s profile;
-
Discuss the creation of new courses, considering the future implementation of the Doctoral Course;
-
Identify the Program’s weaknesses;
-
Distribute questionnaires related to the objectives above.
One of PPGArq’s main self-assessment strategies is the Self-Assessment Seminars (held every two years), which provide an overview of academic activities and address the challenges in teaching, research, and outreach, ensuring alignment with the Program’s research lines.
-
Self-assessment questionnaires for faculty and students;
-
Quantitative and qualitative comparative analysis of academic output across four-year periods.
During the 2021–2024 period, four main self-assessment actions were implemented:
-
Two Self-Assessment Seminars (held in 2021 and 2023);
-
Faculty Self-Assessment Questionnaire;
-
Student Self-Assessment Questionnaire;
-
Comparative analysis of academic output between the 2017–2020 and 2021–2024 periods.
