Luiz Fernando Martha

Civil Engineering graduated at Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) in 1977, aquired his MSc degree in Civil Engineering at PUC-Rio in 1980, got his PhD in Structural Engineering at Cornell University in 1989, working in the Cornell Fracture Group and in the Cornell Program of Computer Graphics, and in 2012 had a post-doctoral stage in Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon. He is Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at PUC-Rio and one of the Project Coordinators of Tecgraf/PUC-Rio (Tecgraf Institute of Technical and Scientific Software Development).

His research interests include Geometric Modeling, Computer Graphics, and Computational Mechanics. He is particularly interested in the development of educational graphics tools for Engineering and Architecture. In this area, his most famous program is Ftool, a frame structural analysis educational tool that is very used in Brazil and in many countries.

He had been Coordinator of the Civil Engineering Course in PUC-Rio from 1998 to 2001 and one of the organizers of the Architecture Course that started in PUC-Rio in 2002. From 2005 to 2007 he was Central Coordinator of Planning and Evaluation of PUC-Rio, and from 2007 to 2009 he was Central Coordinator of Infrastructure of PUC-Rio. Currently (2012) he is Vice-Dean of the Scientific and Technology College (CTC) of PUC-Rio, acting as Undergraduate Coordinator.
